Let Your Bright Spots Be a Catalyst

Recently, CrossFit Recreate implemented “Bright Spots Friday”, or BSF, to cultivate a sense of gratitude and positive mentality among its members. The practice of BSF starts by reviewing your week, focusing on something positive that happened, was said, or was accomplished, and sharing it with the group. Sharing then solidifies the joy and positivity of those moments in your mind.

BSF is a tool to use to refocus on gratitude and positivity and diminish the unnecessary worry and negative attitudes in our lives. When we carry around negative thoughts and attitudes,  it conditions us into self-limiting or self-destructive behavior. It influences us to not try to reach a goal. It advises us and subdues us, keeping us seemingly safe inside a miserable, albeit familiar, shell.(1)

People who regularly practice gratitude by taking time to notice and reflect upon the things they're thankful for experience more positive emotions, feel more alive, sleep better, express more compassion and kindness, and even have stronger immune systems.(2) Practicing gratitude can be challenging, especially at first. The more one chooses to reflect on the positive parts of life, the easier it becomes to notice elements of your life that you are thankful for. Many describe the habit of gratitude as having a snowball effect in that thinking of one thing to be grateful for naturally brings others to mind. Soon, your instinct becomes gratitude and positive mentality.

Sharing the highlights of your week not only brings positive vibes to you, but also to the community you are involved in. Others want to see you succeed. Success shared within a community breeds camaraderie and motivation. The more often you realize your accomplishments, the more motivation you have to pursue new achievements. Positive mentality is an essential building block to progress. At CrossFit Recreate, we want to inspire and stimulate the positive mentality to achieve healthy, happy lives. We look forward to collaborating with our members to continue to foster positive mentality on a regular basis! Members, be sure to share your Bright Spots or celebrate those of others in our private FaceBook Group each Friday!
