CrossFit is best known for its community oriented atmosphere. The CrossFit Recreate community is no different and is built of a diverse group of unique individuals. We will be highlighting a different athlete every month using our “Athlete Spotlight,” where we will ask an athlete a series of “get to know you” questions. This will help introduce you to the members of our community that you have yet to meet, OR If you have met them, teach you a little more about them! You might just find out something new or something you have in common!
Without further ado, we would like to introduce you to…
Sara Andreassi
Tell us a little about yourself (family, school, job):
“My name is Sara, I am currently attending college in Pittsburgh to get my degree as a Paralegal and I graduate this Summer, yay! I work at the Lindsay Law Firm currently and love it. I have a huge family and feel so thankful to have them. I have a cat, William who is literally the love of my life. I have a serious love for hiking and watching Dateline.”
What made you decide to try CrossFit and why CrossFit Recreate?
“I first tried CrossFit about 5 years ago and the small gym I went to closed so I stopped. I was with a few other gyms and the feeling just wasn’t there so when I saw CrossFit Recreate I was excited to give it a try and I am really glad that I did.”
Go to class time?
“5:15 or 6:30pm, I wish I was a morning person but I don’t think that will ever happen but I feel like there are a lot of people that I have not met!”
What is your favorite Wod/movement and your least favorite Wod/movement?
“My favorite movement is anything with the barbell, it makes me feel strong and I love that feeling and any WOD that involves running, I love that feeling.
There is nothing I hate more than being on the bike or doing step ups on the box with the DB’s, it's difficult when you’re short.”
Words to live by/favorite quote?
“Be so grateful your perspective changes. Be so kind the world around you softens. Be so joyous you elevate moods. Be so still you can hear your faith. Be so clear your intentions inspire. Be so peaceful you leave no enemies. Be so silent you listen and learn.”
Any advice for “newbies” & those looking to try CrossFit?
“It was honestly life changing for me, it changed my whole perspective on life. When I started at Recreate I was mentally battling a lot of stuff that I was unable to let go of and coming to Recreate was seriously freeing.
For me CrossFit isn’t about the physical outcome, for me it is mental. Being a part of a CrossFit community has changed my mental health and I am very thankful for that.
I am not that great at it and I love that about it, you don’t have to be! So I guess my advice is to surrender into trying something new, it’s going to be as easy or as hard as you make it. Push yourself because if you won’t, who will?”
Proudest CrossFit accomplishment?
“Competing in my first competition and getting 1 double under, still working on the 2nd.”
If you could create a WOD named after you…what would it consist of?
“Running, power cleans, rowing, drinking wine, chicken nuggets…..”
What are your fitness goals for this year?
“I am running in half marathon in New York City so training for that is a big one. I could be a little better at everything so my goal is to stay committed to bettering myself in and outside of the gym.”
We’d like to thank Sara for taking the time to answer our questions and being a continued member of the CrossFit Recreate community! Be on the lookout for next month’s Athlete Spotlight!
